"We tell you about Rania who has completed her bachelor's degree in law"

What a joy to meet dear friends again at E.G.S.S. orphanage. The pandemic has meant that we have not been able to meet. Many were similar, but apart from the fact that I have grown older, the children and young people had grown up. Many of them especially the young girls who have now become young ladies.

    "Changes that becomes a light"

A glimmer of light and hope is given to us in these pandemic times is the news that Rania has now become engaged to the love of her life. Rania is the girl who has been with us up on Moqattam from the beginning. She and her sister Nora were some of the first children so she is very close to many of us.
They have been waiting with engagement, which usually goes fast in Egypt otherwise, to get to know each other and to build the relationship with each other through God. She also said that her goal is to work in a higher position in the police force when she studies a political science specialization at a university. Now that she is nearing the end of her studies, she finally gets to show her love officially in this engagement.
Many of us are happy with her and get to see another successful story end at EGSS caringhome.

    With warmest regards,

"Every day that came and went, I did not think it was life."

In January 1993, 26 years ago, a group of enthusiasts, led by Folke Axelsson, formed DGSS. The years have passed and a lot has happened over time. Magdy Bassaly, who has been with us all these years, still has a significant role in the work. Over the years, we have always had close contact with the activities at the orphanage. It is fantastic to follow the children's development and state that those who were interested received education, others got married and had children. I think of the saying we have in Sweden, "Every day that came and went, I did not think it was life."

"Together with the little things, the wholeness grows"

I do not know if you share my summary but I would like to say that our world today is so superior that we forget to take care of the most valuable things we have, our hearts and our surroundings. And so in the Christmas season, our consumer community seems to get over us. That's why it's so nice when you have a wakeup call from this madness through a message about hope and love from a young woman at the Cairo Children's Home.

Then again was a year to end. We can look back on a contentive year at the Cairo Children's Home. Unfortunately, the situation in Egypt is getting harder and harder. More people lose hope that it will be better. Unemployment is big especially among Christians. The pressure on the families is getting bigger and more families lose control of the situation, causing the children to suffer.

"They are the sunlight and we are water"

There are few places that I miss so much and crave something so huge after Cairo. Knowing that there are people, adults and children who have become brothers and sisters, is so wonderful. It is a privilege and gives distance from everyday life in Sweden.

Orphanage in Mokattam remains with pride, power and love after all these years. Surely it is a hand over this place that gives people the opportunity for transformation and the possibility of new life opportunities. So, when I once again return to this place, bustling with life and care, so I can not help but be humbled by the fact that it can teach you and me so much.
